Kitselas/McTavish Contract Award – Ridley Island Energy Export Facility Environmental Monitoring Services

Kitselas Development Corporation (KDC) and McTavish Resource & Management Consultants Ltd. (McTavish) in partnership with Wai Wah Environmental Limited Partnership (Wai Wah) submitted a proposal on May 9, 2024, for environmental services associated with the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility (“the Project”), also referred to as RFP 219209, REEF Environmental Monitoring. Kitselas-McTavish in partnership with Wai Wah was successful on their bid.

The Project occurs near Prince Rupert on the unceded Traditional Territories of the Kitselas, Kitsumkalum, Lax Kw’alaams, Gitxaala, Metlakatla and Gitga’at First Nations, the Project will occur on Ridley Island, with Project interactions associated with both the marine and terrestrial environments. Services that will be provided by Kitselas-McTavish include.

  • Marine Mammal Observation
  • Hydroacoustic Monitoring and Fish Observations/Salvage
  • Terrestrial Monitoring
  • Amphibian surveys and salvages, including relocation and potential subject matter expertise pertaining to the overwintering period.
  • Surface water sampling.

Kitselas-McTavish has partnered with Wai Wah to share resources and skilled professionals who can provide training and capacity building opportunities to Kitselas members and Wai Wah employees. As part of this strategic partnership, Kitselas-McTavish will identify several employment and capacity building opportunities, which include but are not limited to procurement and use of equipment, internal training opportunities, and full-time employment of members and employees in the field of environmental monitoring. The identified capacity building initiative includes field-based positions and extends to providing managerial coordination support across the Project – a critical aspect often overlooked in many large infrastructure projects, which typically focus on entry-level positions for community members.

Kitselas-McTavish are excited for this contract award and the opportunities that it will provide to the community. We are confident that this Project is the beginning of a longstanding strong relationship that is focused on meaningful employment initiatives with the long-term goal of increased community capacity to deliver environmental services independently.

Yours sincerely,
KITSELAS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION – MCTAVISH RESOURCE & MANAGEMENT CONSULTANTS LTD.
